On 5 June, 1986, 24-year-old model Marla Hanson met her landlord Steven Roth outside a Manhattan bar to collect an $850 security deposit he owed her. She had also previously rejected his romantic advances. As they walked, two men suddenly attacked her. One held her head while the other slashed her face with razor blades, carving deep wounds across her cheeks in an S-shaped pattern. Roth stood by and watched. The attack required over 150 stitches and left permanent scars that ended her modeling career. It was soon discovered that Roth had hired the two men, Darren Norman and Steven Bowman, to carry out the attack. All three were convicted and sentenced to 5 to 15 years in prison. But Hanson's ordeal wasn't over. During the trial of Norman and Bowman, defence attorney Alton Maddox subjected her to a brutal cross-examination, calling her a woman who "preyed on men" and "that lying bitch." He suggested she had "racial hangups" and falsely identified her Black attackers. Hanson later said the courtroom experience was worse than the physical attack itself. She publicly criticised the criminal justice system for allowing victims to be humiliated on the witness stand. She later became a victims' advocate and screenwriter and she also helps other slashing victims recover from their trauma.

SALINA, Kan. (WKRC) - A father and his girlfriend allegedly forced their 4-year-old child to stand outside in freezing temperatures wearing nothing but her underwear for nearly an hour because she had wet herself.
According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, a woman called 911 on December 7 after she learned from her 4-year-old daughter that she had been abused by her father in the name of punishment.
The woman told police that the father of her children, 26-year-old Brady Burr, picked up the kids at around 10 a.m. that morning and brought them back at around 7 p.m. Burr reportedly told the mother that the 4-year-old girl had peed her pants twice that day, once in the car on the way to his house and again after they arrived. He claimed the girl was spanked for wetting herself, and that she may have a rash on her bottom because she was sitting in the urine for an extended period.
The mother said that upon undressing her daughter, she discovered that her "feet were read, almost purple, and super cold." She asked her daughter what happened, and the child said she "got put on the porch by herself because she was bad," per the affidavit.
When the woman asked her child if she helped decorate the Christmas tree, she reportedly said "no, she didn't deserve that" and that she had to watch from outside by herself.
The child later told authorities that she was put outside without her clothes on after she wet herself, and she believed she was outside for about five minutes.
The victim's sibling was also questioned, and he claimed that both Burr and his girlfriend, 36-year-old Abby Bradstreet, spanked the young girl with a spoon. The sibling said there was no reason for the 4-year-old to be spanked, since she peed her pants on accident. The boy said that he knew the spoon the girl was hit with hurt, since he had been hit with it in the past.
During the sibling's interview, he claimed that the 4-year-old girl was left outside in her underwear for 50 minutes, not five. He reportedly said he knew it was 50 because he heard Burr and Bradstreet say so.
The victim was also reportedly forced to eat dinner in the bathtub by herself.
Investigators said that outdoor temperatures were between 28 and 30 degrees Fahrenheit on the day of the incident.
Burr and Bradstreet were arrested and charged with child abuse and child endangerment.
