A bitch thread

BRATTLEBORO — A Hinsdale, N.H., man was sentenced to 18 months to six years in prison Friday for sexually assaulting his then-18-year-old biological daughter three years ago — a girl he hadn't seen since she was adopted as an infant.

Samuel Hunt, 40, pled guilty earlier this year to the charge of "fornication with a person prohibited to marry," as well as a charge of giving false information to a police officer when he denied that he sexually assaulted her, during their first face-to-face meeting in Brattleboro, and then again in Dummerston.

Hunt had originally been charged with two counts of "fornication with person prohibited to marry," both of which carry a five-year sentence, but the plea agreement reduced it to a single count.

Kyle Dawson, a probation officer with the Department of Corrections, who conducted a pre-sentence report in preparation for the sentencing, said Hunt was guilty of "deviant" behavior.

"It was sexually harmful, sexually deviant and ultimately felonious," Dawson testified during Hunt's sentencing hearing Friday.

Hunt told Windham Superior Court Judge John Treadwell that he did have sex with his 18-year-old daughter on the day they met back in April 2022, when they were driving around the area talking. He said it was consensual and that she had initiated the physical and sexual contact by being "flirty" and kissing him.

The woman was staying with her grandparents at the time of the 2022 incidents, and she told her grandmother the next day and went to the hospital. She told police that she had been sexually assaulted but had "frozen" when Hunt refused to stop.

DNA tests confirmed her story, court records said.

The woman gave a statement Friday, saying that the incidents sent her immediately to a psychiatric hospital, where she was treated for post-traumatic stress disorder, and the incident had only deepened her inclination toward depression.

She said she had only learned that she was adopted a short time earlier, and out of curiosity she reached out to Hunt via social media, and talked to him on the phone.

She said their communication had turned "flirty and weird" but that she didn't cut off their contact, and as a result she said she blamed herself afterwards.

She said the two incidents have had a profound effect on her life. Her trust issues have undermined her marriage and made it impossible for her to get involved with anyone.

She said she also now realizes she looks like Hunt, and as a result has a hard time even looking at herself in the mirror.

"I have lost trust in people. Not too long ago a male coworker gave me a ride home and it was extremely stressful — especially being in a car," her statement said.

"It has caused issues and problems with my husband. We are separated now. It affected my trust with him, and I didn't want him to touch me. I haven't had any other relationships since then, and I don't know how they will be impacted," her statement said.

"Lastly, because I physically look like him, I have a hard time even looking in the mirror — I see the same face. Given the severity of the situation, what I would really like to see is as much jail time as possible. Ideally, I would like to see the most you can give him," her statement said.

Windham County Deputy State's Attorney Dana Nevins said earlier the unusual fornication charge was used rather than a sexual assault charge in order to lessen the trauma of the victim. As a condition of the plea agreement, there was no set sentence agreed upon.

Hunt said they had sex in his vehicle both before and after having dinner at a Brattleboro restaurant and he reached out to her after the incident.

Hunt's attorney, Richard Ammons of the Windham County public defender's office, said that the pre-sentencing investigation by the Department of Corrections contained some inaccuracies, including the victim's age and whether the two sexual incidents were consensual.

But Treadwell said it was not permissible to amend a victim's statement.

Hunt told the judge that he is a prisoner in his own home because of the public response to the news reports of the incidents, and that all he does is work as a painter, come home, and sometimes plays video games.

Since news of the assaults became public, he said, his mental health "has been a roller coaster," and that he is "full of anxiety and sad a lot."

"I get nervous just to go out to get groceries," he said, noting he has received a few threatening messages.

Hunt said that he has lived in Hinsdale with his girlfriend for the last three years. They have lived together for eight years total, he said. He said he is originally from Brattleboro, and graduated from Brattleboro Union High School in 2003.

Dawson, the probation officer who wrote the pre-sentence report stated that Hunt was well spoken and cooperative, and agreed with many of the recommendations in the report, including sex offender group counseling.

But Dawson said that Hunt remained convinced it was consensual.

He said that tests showed that Hunt was at a "moderate" or "low" chance of sexual recidivism. He said that Hunt had engaged in "deviant" sexual behavior.

Dawson said that Hunt could be supervised by "the community" and by his probation officer, but with certain conditions, including that he attend sexual offender group counseling and refrain from drinking alcohol.

He said that Hunt had been "grooming" his daughter over the internet before they met in person.

Hunt told police that he was 17 when his daughter was born, and that the girl's mother was 26 years old.

Dawson said that if Hunt was given a probationary sentence it should contain conditions that prohibit him from drinking for three years — the length of sex offender group counseling, which typically prohibits its members from drinking.

He said that Hunt told him he drank up to six beers a day, multiple times a week, which he said is considered problem drinking.

Hunt told Vermont State Police investigators in 2022 that he had been drinking at the time of the assaults and didn't really remember them.

Bring back public punishments! A whole new market for rotten produce. THEN send them to prison for life.

I guess we should be grateful that the turds were fired.they don't always do that. And what the fuck is a paraprofessional? is that what we used to call more aptly and correctly a teacher's aide back in the day?
