Bible Verses - please share

Each Sunday in church, I present a verse (or verses) to the congregation. The Pastor asked me to do this in an English teacher manner trying to help the congregation memorize the verse. I present it, teach what it means, and then go thru some memory exercises. Every three or four weeks, we move on to a new verse.

It's an exciting thing for me to do, and the Pastor has given me full autonomy in selecting verses. "Let the Spirit lead you," is his only instruction. I am certainly not equipped to teach the Bible as a pastor. His reasons for doing this...

1. He knows I love the Word of God.
2. I am not shy about public speaking. In fact, I used to teach public speaking.
3. It is good for other voices to be heard. He talks enough as Pastor.

I presented my new verse today for now thru Christmas.

For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

- Isaiah 9:6

This was the promise of a Saviour by the prophet Isaiah approximately 700 years before Jesus was born. And His kingdom to come will be perfect and eternal. Follow Jesus and be there!

A nice (and scary) reminder that He sees all, including what is in your heart. There is no hiding. Anything.

And there is no creature hidden from His sight,
But all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him
to whom we must give account.

- Hebrews 4:13

Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament,
And those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.

- Daniel 12:3

It's not just about yourself. There is great reward in bringing others to righteousness through actions, witnessing, leading by example.

Merry Christmas!

And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus,
For He will save His people from their sins.

- Matthew 1:21

For if anyone thinks himself to be something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

- Galatians 6:3

Pride goes before destruction,
and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly,
than to divide the spoil with the proud.

- Proverbs 16:18-19

Out with the old heart, in with the new heart. Embracing Jesus is the only resolution you need.

Happy New Years

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation;
Old things have passed away; behold all things have come new.

- 2 Corinthians 5:17

I often hear questions about why God has allowed His chosen people (and Israel the state) to suffer so much over the centuries. Was just reading 1 Kings 9:6-7, and these verses explain it perfectly. The Jewish nation constantly turned away from God throughout history. Here, God is telling Solomon how it will be just after His temple was built in Jerusalem.

And lest we gentiles get too haughty, we are not any better about turning away from God as a whole.

Too long to type, I'll look for a copy/paste...

But if you or your sons at all turn from following Me, and do not keep My commandments
and My statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods and worship them,

then I will cut off Israel from the land which I have given them; and this house which I have consecrated for My name I will cast out of My sight. Israel will be a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

That was no idle threat.

God gave us everything, the Garden of Eden, mankind screwed it up. God went wrathful, and we still screwed up. God sent his only son as a guide, basically said "See this guy? Strive to be like him." After Christ was risen it was like Gods said "Ok. I've given you all the info you need. Free will, you're on your own." And since the resurrection he has been hands-off.

Simple but powerful words in red that sums it all up.

1. A command/invitation to follow Jesus
2. A promise that if you are with Him, He will be with you. Always.
3. The ultimate promise. Honor from God.

If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me;
and where I am, there My servant will be also.
If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor
.

- John 12:26

The folly of worshipping any man. Even Peter put an immediate stop to that!

As Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him
and fell down at his feet and worshipped him.

But Peter lifted him up, saying,
"Stand up; I myself am also a man."

- Acts 10:25-26

Almost everyone needs to hear this.

Do not put your trust in princes,
nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help.

His spirit departs, he returns to his earth;
in that very day his plans perish.

- Psalm 146: 3-4

Tomorrow is Good Friday. Couldn't think of a better verse to honor the sacrifice and resurrection of our Saviour.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled
and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,

who are kept by the power of God through faith
for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

- 1 Peter 1:3-5

Arise, shine;
For your light has come!
And the glory of the LORD is
risen upon you.

- Isaiah 60:1

This is where the common wake up call, RISE AND SHINE, originated. It now means wake up because the sun is up.

What "arise, shine" really means: Rise up and walk in the light of the Lord. Walk according to the teachings of Jesus. Shine with His light.

Rejoice in the Lord always.
Again I will say, rejoice!

- Philippians 4:4

My current favorite verse. So simple. But if this is not in your life, you are missing out. He will change your life.

And He did give us eternal salvation!

Well, he gave us a shot at it...

We all fall short. It's a matter of how, and how much.
I firmly believe God set a near impossible example through Christ, but he's more concerned with our honest effort and journey.
