Animals Thread (Animals are better than people)

The last known record of beavers in Portugal probably dates back to the end of the 15th century. Since then, this emblematic species has disappeared from our rivers, a victim of intensive hunting and habitat destruction.

However, after two decades of population recovery in [neighboring] Spain, signs of their presence in Portugal have finally been found. Gnawing marks began to appear on trees and structures manipulating the watercourse, typical of this species’ activity, and the timely placement of photo-trapping cameras confirmed the presence of a young adult in Portuguese territory….

Sand Cat...
It is a very rare and endangered race, living in the deserts of Algeria, Libya, Tunisia and the Arabian Gulf. It does not mate with other breeds, it is a "purebred" cat. It hunts at night and waits in its nest during the day. Its main food is rodents, insects, reptiles, bluebirds and poisonous snakes. The way it hunts surprised biologists. It strikes the head like lightning, followed by a powerful bite from the neck, until the prey dies.
When it hunts large prey, it buries it in the sand and returns to it when it is hungry. It does not need water, so it feeds on the fluids of its prey. It has extraordinary hearing, hearing the sounds of rodents when they are in burrows under the sand, and digging to the point of catching them deep down. When it aims at the enemy, it simulates radar systems in horizontal scanning by placing its neck in the sand and its ears on the ground completely horizontally.
