Week 2 Patriots postmortem thread

They called an entirely different offense on Sunday that used a lot of WCO concepts that took advantage of Drake Maye's full skillset, used a ton more motion and play action, and was much more balanced.

You may as well just make me the offensive coordinator if the current OC is just going to take all of my ideas.

Maye was mostly a shotgun QB in college. They actually went away from his "skillset" there.

Didn't look like it to me. He excelled under center on Sunday.

And, yet, that doesn't change the reality of Maye being mostly a shotgun QB in college....

The team actually went AWAY from Maye play calls by going under center more in order to help the running game.

If he excelled at it, it means it is within his skill set, regardless of whether or not he was able to show it in college.

I love that they were more dynamic on Sunday with the motion, bootlegs, play action, taking more shots down field, and being more balanced between run-pass. Exactly what I said they should be doing.

Glad Josh listened.

They won, going against at least one thing that Maye would normally be more comfortable with in the process. No need for you to be a moron about it when you troll. You can focus on the areas where play calling actually did seem to be adjusted specifically for Maye (i.e. boots, which are not unique to Maye as McDaniels used to call them for other QBs, too, but which were put in in this game) without looking like a fucking idiot.

I was basically offensive coordinator for a week.

12 targets, 10 catches for 89 yards and no TD's. No plays over 20 yards.

He's coming back from ACL surgery and is playing limited snaps. I don't see how that is even remotely disappointing under the circumstances.

But thank you for explaining your position.

Yup, they are ramping up his snaps slowly. He's been good when the ball comes to him, though it's been mostly quick and throws slants. There is nothing wrong with how they've used him so far... It's a long season.
