Patriots news

I’m assuming he’s going to be our Week 1 starter and will have around 900-950 rushing yards on the season. He’s walking in as easily our most talented back.
I've been waiting for a reliable 1,000 yard rusher since Curtis Martin. Looking back at all the RB's drafted, we haven't had a RB rush for 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons since Martin from 1995-1997. Yikes!

I'd be surprised if he's the day 1 starter which could mean one of two things: He's that good or Rham is really regressing.

I like Rham, but he's become (or is becoming) a Maroney. The ability is there, and when he is on he is a force. But, no consistency.

Hard to blame him running behind the Oline the last couple years. For him it's just bad luck in that regard, and with his injuries.

The reality is today's "good" RB's get a shelf life of roughly 4 years. They are basically toast and out of the league by 28 yo unless they are elite level. Rham is likely going to split with Hendo this year.. and if the team does keep a FB I think Gibson is gone.

If anyone is interested, ESPN is showing a half hour of Gronk highlights at 7:30 this morning. From 7:00-7:30 is Lawrence Taylor highlights.

FOXBORO — Will Campbell got his wish.

The Patriots’ fourth overall pick told reporters Thursday night that New England is where he wanted to be drafted from the start of the pre-draft process.

“(Patriots executive vice president of player personnel) Eliot Wolf came to my practice about Week 5 of the season, and I told him, this is where I wanted to be,” Campbell said Thursday night.

“I told him, and our area scout, Alex Brooks, that I wanted to be a Patriot, and that happened in the middle of the season. I’ve had great interactions with everybody throughout the process, a lot of them — private workouts, 30 visits, just being up there, getting to meet everybody. And you know, it’s just where I wanted to be. I’m just super excited to get there.”

Campbell said he recalls the Patriots dominating their opponents whenever he turned on the TV and mentioned watching Tom Brady, Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski by name.

Campbell said all of the right things about playing for a Patriots team that has won just four games in each of the past two seasons.

“It’s everything. I played for a historic program (at LSU). Now to play for one in New England, you know? I guess I’m lucky, but I’m just super excited and thankful to wear that logo and on the side of my helmet and across the front of my chest,” Campbell said. “It’s a complete honor, and I’m just excited.”

Campbell’s pre-draft visit to Foxboro was his first time in New England. He called it an “awesome place.”

“I just think that the culture and the New England Patriot logo speaks for itself,” Campbell said. “I believe in the guys in that locker room. I believe in the quarterback and Coach (Mike) Vrabel is my kind of guy. He’s all ball and no BS, and that’s what I want to play for. He’s very hands-on. He loves the players that he coaches. And you know, I just want to be a part of that.”

Campbell is excited to start working with last year’s first-round pick, quarterback Drake Maye. Campbell is expected to play left tackle with the ultra-important role of protecting Maye’s blindside.

The Patriots struggled to protect Maye last season with a revolving door at tackle, with Chukwuma Okorafor, Vederian Lowe, Caedan Wallace and Demontrey Jacobs all taking turn on the left side.

“He’s a heck of a player, a heck of a leader, and you know, he’s the commander of our offense,” Campbell said of Maye. “I’m not only excited to play with him, but you know the rest of the team, I’m excited for the future that we have in Foxboro, and I think we got a special season coming.”

Mike Vrabel Pulls No Punches on NFL Draft Grades
The New England Patriots have drawn praise across the board for their latest NFL Draft haul, addressing key roster holes while adding a wave of impressive talent.
Naturally, the positive reactions have translated to solid draft grades from analysts, but head coach Mike Vrabel made it clear during rookie minicamp that he doesn’t put much stock in those evaluations.
Let’s just say he’s not losing sleep over them.
“I think that the draft grades and all that, who really knows?” Vrabel told the media. “That stuff is, like we always say, it’s interesting, but I don’t think that’s very important.”
So what does Vrabel actually think about his new group of players? He shared his early impressions.
“I think it’s a great group that seems responsible, that all handle the communication about getting here and the hotel,” he said. “There haven’t been any issues — and not that we expect any — I’m just saying that these guys are off to a good start just as far as the professionalism that we expect. We’ll coach them up from what we see on the field.”
Leading the class is LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell, whom the Patriots nabbed with the fourth overall pick. But the reinforcements didn’t end there.
New England also bolstered its offense with explosive additions like running back TreVeyon Henderson and wideout Kyle Williams, while securing some promising defensive talent with high upside.
After finishing 4-13 in back-to-back seasons, the Patriots were in dire need of an infusion of young difference-makers. With this draft class, they’ve taken meaningful steps toward retooling a roster that, just a few months ago, may have been the weakest in the league.
