The 150th Preakness Stakes — the second leg of the Triple Crown of horseracing — is this weekend. What time does it begin and where can you watch it on free TV or streaming?
Horseracing fans go into the Preakness Stakes knowing that there won’t be a Triple Crown winner this year after the owner of Sovereignty — the winner of the
2025 Kentucky Derby on May 3 —
bowed out of the prestigious race to recover before coming back for the Belmont Stakes on June 7, according to
ESPN.
"We want to do what’s best for the horse," Sovereignty trainer Bill Mott told reporters (via
ESPN) following the Kentucky Derby. "Of course, you always think about a Triple Crown, and that's not something we're not going to think about."
The 2025 Preakness Stakes will take place, per usual, at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. The purse for the race is $2 million, with $1.2 million of the total going to the winner.
The 2025 Preakness Stakes is set to begin at 7:01 ET/4:01 PT and will be broadcast live on NBC-TV. Coverage of the Preakness begins at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT on cable on CNBC and moves over to NBC at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT.
The 2025 Preakness Stakes will also stream on Peacock, which is NBC Universal's streaming platform, as well as the NBC Sports app. If you’re not a Peacock subscriber, Peacock offers an ad-based package for $7.99 per month or $79 per year, as well as an ad-free package for $13.99 per month or $139.99 per year.
