I’m still surprised about the whole situation. Generally the NBA scouts are good at identifying talent. And you consider that there’s one perennial All-NBA player / MVP every two drafts on average. So, finding that stud can be very difficult.I actually hated the Tatum trade, though it was because I thought the Celtics didn't get enough, and not about Fulz v. Tatum. I still feel that way, really. But the plights of Fulz and Ball have changed it from a hatred to a disappointment, because "at least..." takes away a lot of the sting.
I can see why they miss on these raw development projects or foreign players with different styles (Giannis, Jokic, etc.). But Tatum was a top high school prospect and played at Duke. A very visible player whose skills were already well developed by draft pick standards. Not that the #3 overall draft position is some huge slight, but it seems no one had him pegged as a franchise superstar or even considered taking him at 2/3. I’m surprised Fulz was a dud but I still don’t understand why teams had Ball rated so high. He just isn’t very good and never had special talent.
