I have friend from LA. I was telling him the other day how the only team I really dislike from LA is the Lakers from all those 80s battles but I agree with you that we respected them. I also agree with Rainmaker that the Lebron era Lakers are so unlikeable. So soft and high maintenance. I can't believe he forced them to draft his son. Has any NBA player ruined the sport more than Lebron?
Magic, Kareem, Shaq, Kobe…rooted against them but enjoyed the entertainment and respected those teams. Wasn’t around for the West and Baylor days but I’m sure would have felt similarly.
LeFraud…impossible to like or respect. They say you’ll miss these guys when they’re gone, but I really won’t. Hate his game, his attitude, his overhype and everything about him. So glad the NBA is transitioning to a new generation of superstars (though I’ll definitely miss Steph.)

I have noticed that the Gen Z athletes across all sports are much more likeable than the Lebron gen. The Celtics are a great example of that with their young stars who have the bravado but also the class of those 80s teams. I think for the last 15 years athletes have just not respected the game and that has translated to fan angst and fatigue wishing things could go back to the way it was. Lebron has by far done the most damage. I agree with you. I won't miss him at all when he's gone.
Even though we have a semi-rivalry over the years, I always found the Kobe and Shaq Lakers likable. It’s a shame that Kobe had to get his name dragged through the mud by someone with half of Los Angeles’ semen up her tubes before we knew what the game was. Back then, she was automatically believed. But he balled the fuck out though. I’ll always remember Shaq embarrassing Dudley so badly that Dudley lost his temper and acted like he could actually do something. My dad and I laughed out loud at the TV when this happened.
I was 12 when Shaq was traded to LA and to this day have never seen more hype for player going to an LA sports team than Shaq. They had commercials hyping up his arrival. It was wild. He was a fan favorite the day he showed up. Those 90's teams with him were absolutely loaded and unfortunately underachieved. Phil Jackson also coming to LA was the most hype I've seen for a coach as well. I miss the Shaq/Kobe/Jackson Lakers.
What a time to be able to watch the NBA. I was watching in the late 80's, but too young to follow until the 90's which is my favorite era. While the Lakers was my team, Michael Jordan was my other favorite player to Magic Johnson and I was rocking Air Jordan 5's in elementary school.

I feel the same way about the NFL. I was pretty young in the 80s but followed - Montana, Marino, Elway but the 90s were my favorite era with Kelly and the K-gun, Dallas (even though I hate them) and GB (hate Favre too) but what an era for passing and electric football.

90's was my favorite era as well for football with the early 2000's being the last great era. Almost every team had an identity and offense or defense that was different. After the rule changes and those coaches leaving from the 90's-2000's, it looks as though every team is identical to each other. There aren't any super stars the 90's had, way too much turnover and no rivalries which has made the NFL overall is extremely boring.

Mixed feelings on this game. Thrilled with the effort and aura and would say “a good loss” but same concerns as always in games where Cs underperform. Brown 11/30, Tatum 10/25. That’s 21/55. Combined 6/29 on threes. Too many great players and depth for those splits.
White was 8/9, 5/5 on threes and carried them on both ends of the court down the stretch. Every time he touched the ball down the stretch he either scored or created a great opportunity, but the team goes with difficult three point attempts from the Jays when it matters most.
Other thoughts:
-Was Holiday benched? He didn’t come back in after leaving in Q3. He was having an off game. Not sure. Regardless, I think we could see less minutes from Jrue due to his age and Pritchard’s emergence. No one is going to be taking White’s minutes.
-Queta needs to play more. A lot more. His presence makes a huge difference. He owns the rim and especially with the starters they don’t need another offensive weapon. He should either be starting or coming in for Horford, taking Kornet’s minutes.
-I renew my objection to Jordan Walsh playing. He doesn’t seem to know what’s happening out there. Like, he’s just lost, timid, and doesn’t seem to know where to go and has no court instincts. Needs more development or just isn’t an NBA guy.
-Brown has improved his dribbling but needs to stop dribbling. It used to be a problem on his paint/baseline stuff but now he’s doing these little dribbles outside the perimeter for no good reason. But his defense has remained ferocious so I’ll leave it there in terms of his overall effect.
-Tatum just needs to lay off those off balance 3s. I’m fine with him taking more 3s but no player in the world including Steph Curry is making a living by off dribble contested 3 pointers. No one. It’s cool when it happens and it’s a great highlight, but you don’t see all the many misses. It’s a low percentage shot in the end. No reason to jack these up unless the shot clock is running down.
Almost every LeBron career achievement is some kind of narrative manufactured garbage rather than what he actually accomplishes on the court. Total point milestones…lol. I don’t even think the NFL had an on field stoppage when TB12 topped things like 80K passing yards or 600 TDs because that stuff is beneath a player of his stature.
