I watched it earlier, and just posted about it. As I said there, we've got to put an end to the idea that the police should, in any way, be above the law they are supposed to be upholding.

Qualified Immunity is necessary, but it is now applied so broadly it has become a license to violate at will.

Immunity is not necessary. What is needed is guardrails on the lawsuits. They've done that with lawsuits against doctors in Massachusetts, for example, with things such as capped damages and tribunal review. Immunity of the sort the police have is part of the problem. Not only do the offending officers know that there will be no criminal charges or employment repercussions for anything but the worst of errors, they know that they'll be protected from civil procedures, too.
