A consumer thread

Just a heads up. Be warned:

Fake food company Beyond Meat, once endlessly promoted by globalist corporate media trying to convince the nation that cow farts are bad and fake meat is good, has been locked in a near five-year bear market. It seems that Redditors and the company's press release are squeezing shares higher. However, a recent debt swap for equity will substantially dilute shareholders. We've seen this story before, and it never ends well.

News this morning that Beyond Meat plans to expand its fake food products to over 2,000 Walmart stores nationwide sent shares up 60% in premarket trading. The surge is likely due to a combination of the Reddit army of day traders catching on that hedge funds have been heavily shorting the stock.
Beyond Meat's latest short interest data show that 54% of the company's publicly available shares are short, or about 39.59 million shares. Based on the average daily volume of around 9 million shares traded per day, it would take 4.44 days for shorts to cover.

Meanwhile, day traders on Reddit's WallStreetBets page are all about BYND...

The simple reality is that the end game of automation is near-100% unemployment, and a society that's based upon something other than work-for-profit/survival. And the time for that is getting nearer, as this demonstrates:

Amazon is reportedly looking to automate a significant portion of its operations, which could allow the company to avoid hiring over 600,000 U.S. workers by 2033. The leaked internal documents reveal that Amazon aims to automate 75 percent of its operations, potentially saving $12.6 billion between 2025 and 2027.

The company’s robotics team is reportedly working to replace 160,000 U.S. roles by 2027, saving approximately 30 cents on every item warehoused and delivered. The documents also indicate that Amazon expects to double its product sales over the same period.
In anticipation of backlash, Amazon has reportedly explored ways to soften its public image, including participation in community projects and avoiding the use of terms like “automation” or “AI.” Instead, the company has considered using phrases such as “advanced technology” and “cobot” to describe its robots working alongside humans.

Amazon responded publicly to the leak, claiming the documents were incomplete and do not fully represent its hiring strategy. The company also denied instructing executives to avoid certain terminology when discussing robotics...

Amazon is shedding corporate jobs as its embrace of artificial intelligence reduces its need for humans.

The company plans on “an overall reduction in our corporate workforce of approximately 14,000 roles,” Senior Vice President of People Experience and Technology at Amazon Beth Galetti posted.
“Some may ask why we’re reducing roles when the company is performing well. Across our businesses, we’re delivering great customer experiences every day, innovating at a rapid rate, and producing strong business results,” she wrote.

“What we need to remember is that the world is changing quickly. This generation of AI is the most transformative technology we’ve seen since the Internet, and it’s enabling companies to innovate much faster than ever before.”...

Technology company Bending Spoons is buying AOL from private-equity firm Apollo Global Management, the latest in a string of ownership changes for the internet pioneer.

Bending Spoons, which is based in Italy and also owns note-organizing app Evernote and photo-sharing app Remini, recently secured $2.8 billion in debt financing to help fund the deal and for other investments.

The Wall Street Journal reported last month that Apollo was exploring a sale of AOL, and that people familiar with the matter said any deal could value AOL at around $1.5 billion...

So, enough to cover the modem recycling costs and environmental damage cause by all those years of floppy disks and cd's?

I'm still buying and using CDs. Hardcopies are still the smart way to go.

A listeria outbreak linked to recalled prepared pasta meals has left six people dead and numerous others hospitalized, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

According to data collected by public health officials, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS), a total of 27 people have been infected with the outbreak strain of listeria, which has been reported in 18 states.

Listeria, per the CDC, is "a bacteria that can contaminate many foods." Those who consume the contaminated items begin experiencing symptoms as early as the same day or as late as 10 weeks after.

Of the 26 affected people that had information available, 25 were hospitalized, and 6 deaths were reported in he following states: Hawaii, Illinois Michigan, Oregon, Texas and Utah.

One pregnancy-associated illness, meanwhile, resulted in the loss of a baby.

In addition to the 27 cases reported, the CDC said the true number of sick people tied to the outbreak is likely higher, given it takes three to four weeks to determine if a sick person is part of such. Some people may also recover from the illness without seeking medical care.

Back in June, epidemiologic, laboratory and traceback data showed that chicken fettuccine alfredo meals produced by FreshRealm were contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes that were making people sick.

In the following months, FreshRealm tested ingredients used in the meals and pasta from Nate’s Fine Foods, a ready-to-eat foods manufacturer in Roseville, Calif., after which the manufacturer initiated the voluntary recall of more than 245,000 pounds of prepared pasta dishes.

According to the CDC, pasta ingredients from Nate’s Fine Foods were later confirmed to be positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

While state and local health officials continue to “gather information of what ill people ate before getting sick," they encourage consumers to return or discard recalled foods.
