Wade Boggs was an incredible hitter. He only hit double-digit home runs in a season twice, so he wasn’t a power hitter, but had had a career 91.4 WAR. He did damage without being a slugger! In 1988, he only hit five home runs, but walked 125 times (led all of baseball) and had 18 intentional walks (he led the AL in IBBs for six straight seasons). Pitchers feared him, and he had great discipline to go along with his top-tier elite bat-to-ball skills! But don’t get confused, he could hit the piss out of the ball. He had 578 career doubles. And in 1987, when his team needed power, he hit 24 home runs and still batted .363!

There's good news and bad news.

The bad news: The Red Sox lost again

The good news: It took them 10 innings to lose this time.

It’s officially become comical. Runner on 3rd, no outs and you respond with two strikeouts and a fly out to end the inning.

Yet another example of how using analytics without context is a road to disaster.

The Sox lose again, but it took 10 innings again!!

Kind of hard to take solace in that.

700+ players in MLB and Trevor Story is number 5 in strikeouts. The second highest paid player on the team.

I hated the signing on day one. I hated it more when they let Xander go. I hate it even more now that pretty much every "worst fear" about the guy has come true. It's just too bad that John Henry didn't fire himself a decade ago, when a lot of this crap could still have been avoided.
