I just got a game on steam called Kenshi. It looks like a game for complete autistics, which is what I was kind of in the mood for.
Based on a lot of positive reviews, it’s a sandbox with no main characters or storyline, with a steep and brutal learning curve, and shit graphics. That’s a lot to overcome to get great reviews. Apparently the world itself, to make up for all of that, is completely open to manipulation. Run slaver Empires, lone samurai around, kill faction leaders and watch entire geographical area change or erupt in civil war. Open sand box with heavy cause and effect and open endedness. We’ll see
Diving in.

My update on Kenshi:
I’m up to night #3, with a second character I started after deciding to begin anew with a slightly better understanding of the game.
To get my strength up, I spent a lot of time last night just running laps around a city with a bag pack full of metal. It might sound boring but it was a’ight.
When I started this game I didn’t even know it was full of Samurai and Ninjas and shit. Now I have a katana.
Anyway, when I recruited my first squad-member the game design kind of opened up a little bit more for me. Since I’m now both of these characters, and can pause the game and give separate commands, it feels kind of like a real-time Final Fantasy Tactics style game, where I might have one guy attack a group in the road (later when I’m not such a weak bitch), while I have others sneaking around behind them Ninja-style, and dudes above them with a crossbow.
All of a sudden it reveals itself as an RPG open-world strategy game and not just Samurai-Morrowind with a janky camera that can be zoomed out to overlook the terrain like a battlefield rather than exist as cameraman for a lone main-character.
I’ve now ended back up in an area controlled by dudes who are mega racist and super misogynistic. Perfect. I realized last time on my first character they were throwing me in real-time jail because I didn’t have a book on me called ‘The Holy Flame,’ which details how non-humans need to be purify-purged and women can be a real fucking problem.
If you don’t have a copy of this book on you at all times you’re breaking the law. Now I don’t just have one copy, I have two.
Now everyone is chill as fuck.
Home sweet home.
Have a good jump on a foundation now with the stats of my squad leader guy.
Have today off from work. Goals: Get capable enough that I can cut up groups of starving post-apocalyptic bandits, instead of running from them. Get my second guy up to where my ‘main’ one is now.

i keep sharing your posts with my friend because hes a hardcore player of Kenshi and has been trying to get me to play it, so just curious how he responds
this is what he said about your post

im on the fence, i def dont want to spend $30 on it
Every hour I play this game, the more it blooms into what it actually is. I knew I’d have to grind the first added squad member, so I just recruited a 3rd to try and do it all at once. In between leveling up what I can, and mining ore, I’ve rebuilt an L house and started crafting. I’m trying to get the max level training dummies set up so future members of my Cobra Kai can go straight to that.
Now I really start to see what the game is going to become, which has compelled me to do a pretty serious grind today, where all of a sudden it’s 5:00PM and I’m like “shit I should eat breakfast.”
Have three guys now that can run fast, carry a lot, and one can newb-fight. Next step is to get them capable in a fight.
So anyway, soon I’ll have a Samurai, I have a bearded Kung Fu looking mother fucker I’m going to eventually have learn karate, and I got a big ass dude that’s gonna be Heavy everything. When I get around to a 4th he’ll be my assassin ninja guy.
You can wait for this to go on sale for sure, but afterwards, if you give it a few days of grinding,
I haven’t even scratched the surface of this game and I can see it on the horizon. Game is pretty fucking bad ass.
