As I posted above matt light had short arms.I had to go and look and see what it was because I remember people bitching about it back then.He and will campbell are exactly three eighths of an inch difference.
Yes, but Matt Light was a second round pick. Will Campbell was the fourth overall pick who is expected to have all pro talent and that is why there was so much discussion and debate about this. Also, I really like Matt Light but he was never really an elite player. Most people outside of Boston do not really know him well or associate him as a key player during the dynasty. He was solid, but not a great memorable player. Being the left tackle, having consistency and durability, along with his personality are the main reasons he is so well liked and regarded locally. That he was injured, but still a player drafted that high should never be the absolute worst player on the field and put up a historically bad performance like that.
My grade for this pick so far goes from a B plus to a C. That’s how bad he was.
I would be surprised if many people would be unhappy if campbell had a matt light like career. would you be?

Offensive linemen play through injuries pretty frequently yet there are a few recollections of anyone ever getting absolutely demolished like that

Not really. When you pick an LT at #4, your expectations are pretty damn high. This isn’t a position where it’s a total crapshoot.
Of course, I’d be somewhat happy with any player who can play over a decade with consistency and a fairly high-level of play. But we are very far away from that anyway..
Your question is kind of like asking a Chiefs fan if they were happy with Eric Fisher. I could see it going either way on that answer.

Note the high percentage at QB, which actually breaks down in approximate thirds (Great/Good enough/Bust), but gets a 46% rate here. That tells us that, in all likelihood, that 50% skews high as well (an elevated rate is not a surprise, since some teams will give the second contract in hopes of improvement, or just to avoid risking an inability to replace even a very average player for one reason or another). And Light was a very good LT for the Patriots, and he was a Pro Bowler multiple times and first team All Pro once, in 2007. So anyone who's actually unhappy with that level of play has ridiculous expectations.
I guess I think about the draft differently from some others.whether a guy is a second round pick or a first round pick if he performs in such a way that he's a steady, good, reliable performer for ten plus years, I don't understand why anyone would be unhappy with that just judging by the rate in general of hitting on draft picks.
Maybe people are upset with who could have been picked instead, but there's no guarantee that that player would have done more for this team than the player who was chosen.

There's just far too much context (often ignored)t to be as dismissive as so many fans have gotten. Will Campbell struggled after his injury? He must suck then, and he's got to go. Meanwhile, Dante has come out and said that he'd keep him at LT. He's a bust if he's not an absolutely dominant LT? Well, he was taken in an historically weak draft where nobody was expecting him to be a Jonathan Ogden or Orlando Pace, and it was understood that he was a need pick with a lower "ceiling", so why should that change after the draft?
