It's just smart.I mean I said this a long time ago when offenses went more pass happy especially with those emphasis rules and as practice time has eroded and pads are less used it behooves teams to be more run oriented. they're gonna have light boxes about 80% of the time anymore. I mean I don't know how many teams play nickel as their base defense,but it's a lot of them. Buffalo and Denver have really kind of lightish players up front on their defensive lines. People criticize bill a lot but I'll tell you he always liked having that big nickel guy for versatility. so you don't have to keep subbing out on defense and you're more prepared when quarterbacks change plays. I think that's even more important now that teams are playing with 2 linebackers basically. having one of those safeties like Rodney but even faster and quicker who can help in pass defense.
