State of the NFL defenses

Good thread topic. The quality of NFL players has dropped off for many years. Like the NBA, the league in general is getting worse by the year and become more unwatchable. I didn't even watch the playoffs.

Getting back to NFL defensive players, the rule changes favoring offenses has also allowed pass rushers to benefit because of the amount of drop backs QB's are taking giving them more opportunities to inflate their sack totals. They are also not facing top flight RB's which the NFL used to have wearing down pass rushers. This is a major reason why their contracts have gotten out of control so quickly. There was a time when it was an accomplishment for DE/OLB/Edge to get 10+ sacks. Now if you can't get at least 10 sacks in this era, you're garbage.

The highest player on the Pats last year had 5 sacks...so everyone on the Pats D is garbage?

The Pats are not exempt from what I said, so yes. There's a reason why they brought in Landry who has had 10+ sacks multiple times throughout his career. Milton Williams and Barmore should help assist with the interior, but Keion White needs to get his shit together. He was invisible his rookie year while Barmore had a career year with 8 sacks rushing from the interior. White went 14 games in 2024 producing a goose egg after week 2 and went without a sack 7 games straight twice during the season. That is pathetic as an edge rusher. I don't care who your coach was.

I think you are overstating it a bit. Aaron Donald had a few years where he had less than 10 sacks. Dexter Lawrence is widely viewed as one of the best NT's in the game, yet he had only 9 sacks last year.

You need to re-read my initial post.

Jesus dude. Re-read the 2nd to last sentence. You are missing a key piece.

Learn to write better. You didn't specify in the second sentence that your comment was only limited to certain positions.

Lol. It's clear as day. Don't blame me because your reading comprehension is poor.

Do you know what else was clear as day? The rules pertaining to Spygate...

A couple things. Every team did it in one way or another. Pats just got set up by the rat Magini who was tired of getting his ass kicked by BB. This is why guys like Andy Reid puts they play sheet over his face so teams can't decipher what he's saying. This should've been a non story.

The other thing is it didn't affect the Patriots after the hammer was laid down on them. It's not like when Shawn Merriman couldn't take his steroids.

There is zero proof that "every team did it one way or another." Mangini literally turned Belichick in during his third game against him as coach - so there was no history of "getting his ass kicked by BB." You are literally talking about 2 games. And you are confusing "reading lips" vs sign stealing. You and other pats fans may want to learn about Spygate before commenting.

Bro still thinks teams videotape their opponents. try to learn the difference between legal sign stealing and illegal sign stealing.

Brady still hasn't gotten to 5 super bowl wins without the aid of Spygate. That's a shame. He was such a good QB.

Damn near every then current coach, and past coaches, alluded to doing the same. And those who didn't were just pussies.

Prove it. The only one who was found guilty by the league was Belichick. A handful of other coaches doing it doesn't make the Patriots innocent or less guilty. No other team had a more sophisticated spying system.

To this day all that happens

Prove it.
