March 5th 1965, 59 years ago today, The Manish Boys released their second single 'I Pity The Fool', featuring a young David Bowie.
After its release as a single, it became one of bands biggest hits as well as one of their most identifiable songs and several artists have recorded renditions.
During this time Jimmy Page was their regular session musician and he played the guitar solo on ‘I Pity the Fool’. Page gave Bowie a guitar riff, which he didn't know what to do with. Bowie later used this guitar riff in two different songs, first on ‘The Supermen’ from 1970 and second on ‘Dead Man Walking’ from 1997.

He could be considered the most important figure in the development and popularization of electric blues and early rock and roll.
Chess Records signed and recorded Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Bo Diddley, Sonny Boy Williamson, Willie Dixon, Little Walter, The Moonglows, The Flamingos, Chuck Berry, Etta James, Koko Taylor, Little Milton... who became the most influential artists of the genre that became Rock n Roll.
Leonard Chess died (age 52) of a heart attack on October 16, 1969, a few months after selling his namesake label to General Recorded Tape.

And before he was Sly Stone, Sylvester Stewart was a San Francisco deejay and record producer. Though “folk rock” isn’t what immediately comes to mind when one thinks of him, Stewart did help launch the Beau Brummels, who beat The Byrds to the market with “Laugh Laugh” in December 1964 to kick off the genre.
Stewart co-produced the track (with Lenny Waronker).

This was the first concert I saw at a bar, Rick Derringer and Johnny Winters. It was in Enfield Ct in a bar called Shaker Park. I was 16 with a fake ID, life was good. They used to have some great concerts for a small venue. I lived about a mile and a half away. I could get completely hammered and then it was just a short drive home.
