Not sure that loyalty has much, if anything, to do with it, though. This team didn't have 53 NFL-level players on its "90 man roster". That's probably why there are 8 WRs still on the 53, and it's probably why neither Dugger Nor Jennings were cut after trades could not be made. And that's probably why some 5-15 players at the bottom of the roster, overall, are still with the team.

Now the kicker, on the other hand, does give off a strong whiff of "But we drafted him, so...".

i think the value of that strategy took a serious hit when they essentially erased kickoffs from the equation

at that point it didnt make sense to have so many roster spots dedicated to specialist roles on the punt team
