Patriots GameDay Patriots vs Texans Divisional Round

Patriots GameDay Discussion
If the playoff opponents are so weak, then how bad are all the teams that didn't make it?
Anybody who just puts up the names of quarterbacks, and says that that makes something easiest or hardest is an idiot. The defenses of these past two teams that the patriots have played in the playoffs were top defenses in the n f.l. it's like these people don't realize there's three phases of the game. Not just a quarterback, and a bunch of jabronis.

I think it's fair to say that, for multiple reasons, this was a very down year across the league. That's not a justification for all the goalpost movers, but the league's been about as bad this year as I can remember in this century.

He leaves out that Maye actually faces 3 of the top 5 defenses in the league

He's not wrong. The success of this team is made-up to a very significant extent by its HISTORICALLY EASY schedule & lucky breaks all along the way.
Their point differential was third in NFL during regular season. They’ve beaten two 12 win teams by two TDs. By “the success of this team” perhaps you mean a 14-3 record which indicates dominance. True, they’re not on that level. They're definitely in the class of Super Bowl contenders though.

The "real" teams this year all ended up in the NFC, which is why people are dismissing the Patriots. Nobody actually believed in the Bills, Texans, Jaguars or Broncos, so the goalposts were always going to be moving.

The "real" teams in the 2025-2026 NFL:

Rams
Seahawks (as long as the QB doesn't melt down)
49ers (before the injuries)
Eagles (if they'd ever gotten their shit together)
