The New England Patriots improved to a 2-0 record in the AFC East after a 23-20 victory at Buffalo last Sunday night. The Patriots have a winning record after the first five games for the first time since starting the year with an 8-0 record in 2019. This week, the Patriots will continue a three-game road trip when they play the Saints in New Orleans. Following the Saints game, the Patriots will continue on the road with a trip to Tennessee. A victory this week will give the Patriots their first three-game winning streak since the 2022 season. The Patriots will attempt to snap a two-game losing streak against the Saints.

SERIES HISTORY​

Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft's first game as owner of the team was a 1994 preseason game at Foxboro Stadium against the Saints. The Patriots won that game 24-6.
The two teams will meet this week for the 17th time and for the first meeting since a 34-0 Saints victory at Gillette Stadium on Oct. 8, 2023. The Patriots will play in New Orleans for the first time since a 36-20 win on Sept. 17, 2017.
The Patriots lead the all-time series, 10-6. The Patriots are 5-1 against the Saints in New Orleans, including 4-1 at the Superdome against the Saints. The only loss was a 38-17 Monday Night Football game in 2009.

PATRIOTS IN NEW ORLEANS​

The Patriots have played in three Super Bowls in New Orleans at the Louisiana Superdome, the home of the Saints. The 1985 Patriots qualified for the first Super Bowl in team history, but lost to the Chicago Bears, 46-10. In 1996, the Patriots reached their second Super Bowl in the Crescent City and fell to the Green Bay Packers, 35-21, in Super Bowl XXXI. New England returned to the Big Easy for Super Bowl XXXVI and defeated the St. Louis Rams, 20-17, to claim the first NFL title in team history.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR...​

  • The Patriots have won two straight games following a 42-13 win vs. Carolina and a 23-20 win at Buffalo last Sunday night. A victory at New Orleans this week will give the team its first three-game winning streak since the 2022 season when they won 22-17 at the N.Y. Jets (10/30), 26-3 vs. Indianapolis (11/6) and 10-3 vs. the N.Y. Jets (11/20).
  • The Patriots will look to snap a two-game losing streak to the Saints, following a 28-13 loss on Sept. 26, 2021, and a 34-0 loss on Oct. 8, 2023.
  • The Patriots are the only team in 2025 that has not surrendered 50 yards to a running back through the first five games in 2025. It is the first time in team history that has occurred. Last season, Baltimore did not allow a 50-yard rusher for the first seven weeks of the season and Kansas City started the 2024 season with a five-game streak.
  • The 2025 Patriots team is fifth in the NFL against the run, allowing 85.6 rushing yards per game. The franchise record of 88.6 rushing yards per game was recorded in 2016.
  • The Patriots defense is allowing just 3.51 yards per rush through the first five games of the season, the fourth-lowest mark in the NFL in 2025. The team record for a season is 3.3 recorded in 2023.
  • With CB Marcus Jones' 87-yard touchdown vs. Carolina and RB Antonio Gibson's 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown at Miami on Sept. 14, it marked the fourth season that the Patriots have returned at least one punt and one kickoff for a touchdown in the same season. The Patriots have also returned both a punt and kick for a touchdown in 1980, 2010 and 2012. Of those seasons, only the 2010 season had multiple returns. That year, the Patriots returned one punt for a touchdown and two kicks for a touchdown. If the Patriots get a touchdown on a return this week at New Orleans, they can match that season.

  • Diggs has had four streaks with at least two games with at least 10 receptions – 2020 (3-game streak), 2018 (two 2-game streaks), 2016 (3-game streak).
  • Diggs had his second straight 100-yard game last week at Buffalo after finishing with 10 receptions for 146 yards. He had 6 receptions for 101 yards vs. Carolina (9/28). If he reaches 100 yards receiving this week at New Orleans, it will be the first time he has had three straight 100-yard receiving games since a stretch of four straight 100-yard games in 2022 when he played for Buffalo. If he completes at least 80 percent of his passes this week at New Orleans, he will be the first New England quarterback with three games in a season with an 80 percent completion percentage.
  • Maye had his fourth straight game with 200-plus yards passing, a 70-plus completion percentage and a 100-plus quarterback rating to tie Tom Brady for the longest such streak in Patriots history since the 1970 merger. Brady accomplished the feat during the first four games of the 2007 season. The record for most consecutive games with 200-plus passing yards, 70-plus completion percentage and a 100-plus passer rating was done by Aaron Rodgers in 2020 and Peyton Manning in 2012.
  • Maye enters this week against New Orleans second in the NFL with a 73.9 completion percentage. Jared Goff of Detroit is leading the NFL with a 75.2 completion percentage. The NFL record for a season was set by Drew Brees in 2018 with New Orleans when he finished with a 74.4 completion percentage. Tom Brady has the New England record for a season with a 68.9 completion percentage in 2007. Brady had a 72.5 completion percentage after six games in 2007.

Yup, and I'm not worried about Williams either. The potential problem is edge depth if both Chaisson and White are out, then we are looking at Jennings and Ponder to fill in... Though one alignment that was effective in the game was Landry, Barmore, Tonga/Farmer, Williams, they had three LB's on the field too so obviously more of a base 4-3 look. The LB's were Tavai, Spillane, Gibbens. Williams sliding over to play on the edge for a good chunk is fine in my book.
