NFL General News

It appears that Kevin Stefanski is about to get a second shot at a head coaching gig.

After a 5-12 finish, the Cleveland Browns fired the two-time Coach of the Year. While GM Andrew Berry continues to interview candidates for the HC role, Stefanski is reportedly on the verge of filling another vacancy.

According to Connor Hughes of SNY, Kevin Stefanski is “the favorite” to become the next head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. The NFC South club fired Raheem Morris after a second straight 8-9 finish.

Stefanski is also listed as the overwhelming favorite to become the Falcons’ next HC at multiple sportsbooks, including Fox Bet and FanDuel. So make of that as you will.

On Wednesday morning, news emerged that the New York Giants were close to hiring John Harbaugh as their next head coach. Fast forward to Friday, however, and the deal has not been completed.

Aside from Atlanta, Cleveland and New York, the Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, Las Vegas Raiders, Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers also have head coaching vacancies.

Stefanski’s last two years in Cleveland didn’t go according to plan. But, this is a man who guided a perennial losing franchise to two playoff berths. Remember, he did so in 2023 with a 38-year-old journeyman Joe Flacco as his quarterback.

Before joining the Browns, Stefanski had a successful one-year stint as the Minnesota Vikings’ offensive coordinator. He helped unlock Dalvin Cook’s potential. Stefanski also got Kirk Cousins to bounce back after a tough first season in Minny.

Atlanta made a curious choice to go with a defensive-minded coach in Morris. They need an offense-driven coach to unlock a young offense led by Michael Penix Jr., Bijan Robinson and Drake London.

If the Falcons hire Stefanski, it could be the move that finally helps them re-emerge as a contender in the NFC.

I'd rather have Stefanski than Harbawl. Glad he's out of the AFC. Now he can seize that clown division by the balls and take it over as the talent on his new team dictates it should.

That nerd will set the fraiders back years and waste Mendoza (who I don't think is that good anyway). Dude needs to remain an oc. He is a cheap skates Josh McDaniels.

Gotta figure (and hope, if you're a Raiders fan) that this is one of those "Let's just be thorough" interviews.

Yep; the capri-wearing half-breed gweep is, simply put, Not a leader of men.

He's a good coordinator, but his schtick wears off quick as a HC. If he was smart he'd take the Lions OC job, which might be the 2nd or 3rd best available gig.

It took longer than expected to dot the i’s and cross the t’s, but the Giants have their man. The Giants made the hiring of John Harbaugh official with an announcement on Saturday afternoon. He becomes the 21st coach in franchise history.

“We are proud to name John Harbaugh as the next head coach of the New York Giants,” team president John Mara said in a statement. “Joe Schoen presented us an outstanding group of candidates, which allowed us to be deliberate and confident in this decision. Through numerous conversations, John consistently stood out for his conviction and vision for leading a winning organization, and we welcome him and his family to the Giants.”...

Packers coach Matt LaFleur will remain in Green Bay.

LaFleur and the Packers have agreed to a contract extension, according to multiple reports.

The Packers’ disappointing playoff exit, and the fact that LaFleur’s contract was up after the 2026 season, led to some speculation that LaFleur could be on the way out in Green Bay. But that speculation can end now, as LaFleur has agreed to a new deal.

Both General Manager Brian Gutekunst and director of football operations Russ Ball are also reportedly getting new deals...
