NFL General News

Teams being lame enough to tank and wanting to rest players is just going to happen. I don't think I want the n.f.l. looking into it. I just hope that it always fails as a strategy cause I hate it.

The Las Vegas Raiders have nothing left to play for this season. With a 2-13 record, the focus has shifted to draft position instead of wins. That shift has created frustration, especially for star pass rusher Maxx Crosby.

The team decided to shut Crosby down for the final games because of a knee injury that needs surgery. Crosby was not happy with the decision. Reports say he wanted to keep playing, and that disagreement has now raised questions about his future with the team.

Trade rumors around Crosby are not new, but they feel more serious now. The Raiders appear headed for another rebuild, while Crosby wants to win right away. One NFL executive believes that the growing gap could eventually force a big decision.

Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that Crosby would command a huge return. One unnamed NFL executive shared a clear price tag.

“According to an NFL executive who spoke on the condition of anonymity Friday, Crosby would fetch at least two first-round picks,” Bonsignore wrote. “After signing a contract extension this year, the executive said Crosby’s contract is ‘easily tradeable,'” he added.

That price makes sense given who Crosby is. He is one of the NFL’s best defensive ends and plays every snap at full speed. Teams value that kind of player.

The Raiders would not want to move him. Owner Mark Davis sees Crosby as the face of the team. He also means a lot to the Las Vegas community. Inside the locker room, he leads by example and sets the standard on game days.

Age and timing complicate things. Crosby will be 29 before next season. A full rebuild could take a few years, which may not match the best years of his career.

Trading him could help the Raiders reset faster. Two first-round picks would give them options. They could chase a quarterback, rebuild the defense, or quickly reshape the roster if the picks work out.

Several teams could show interest. The Detroit Lions make sense. Crosby grew up a Lions fan in Michigan, and Detroit could use a top pass rusher after missing the playoffs.

The Dallas Cowboys could come again, they actually showed interest before the trade deadline and, but now pressure also builds on them. They also own extra draft capital. The Philadelphia Eagles always chase elite talent. Raiders general manager John Spytek worked with Eagles GM Howie Roseman before. That link matters.

The Los Angeles Rams also loom. Les Snead never hesitates to trade picks for stars. Crosby would transform their defense right away.

The Raiders hold the final call. Crosby holds the leverage. This offseason could bring one of the league’s biggest moves.

The Raiders can draft a QB and then spend their $100m + in cap space. That should go a long way towards untwisting Crosby's panties.

Cincinnati Bengals star quarterback Joe Burrow has started to pop up in trade rumors amid another disastrous season in Queen City.

Joe Burrow missed nine games this season with a turf toe injury. The Bengals unraveled without their franchise signal-caller, and now they’re set to watch the postseason from home for the third straight year.

Earlier this month, Burrow left some fans worried after looking defeated and dejected in a press conference. The 29-year-old admitted that he was going through some things and stressed that he has “to have fun” if he’s going to play football long-term.

And two weeks ago, Burrow said, “You think about a lot of things,” when a reporter asked him about a possible trade. That obviously isn’t the type of commitment you want to hear if you’re a Bengals fan.

NFL Execs Reveal What It Would Cost To Land Joe Burrow

CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones spoke with multiple league executives to gather their thoughts on the potential asking price for Burrow. One NFC scout suggested that any offer must start with at least two first-round selections:

“Probably depends on if a team has a young QB or players to offer but imagine they won’t even answer the phone if you don’t have at least two first-round picks plus more. Maybe even three if you’re not doing it with any players involved.”
Another compared it to the New Orleans Saints’ disastrous trade-up for running back Ricky Williams at the 1999 NFL Draft:

But even that wasn’t enough for one AFC team executive, who told CBS Sports a “Ricky Williams type” of trade would have to transpire. That was when the Saints traded their entire 1999 draft, plus two future first-round picks, to Washington in order to move up seven spots and select the Texas running back.
There’s no clear-cut indicator that Joe Burrow actually wants to leave Cincinnati. And considering how much the Cleveland Browns gave up for Deshaun Watson, it’s safe to say Cincy would want at least three firsts for arguably the league’s best passer.
