NFL General News

It’s not even debatable at this point that Dak Prescott is having an outstanding year so far. Anyone who says otherwise in not being serious or fair. Without Dak, this team is bad.

And before I go any further, let me state upfront that multiple things can be true about many things in life, including NFL QBs. Here’s are some of those multiple truths:
Dak is paid too much. But so are many other NFL QBs. Some far less talented than he is.
Dak has not played well at times in the playoffs. Like the awful GB loss in Jan. 2024 or the last loss to the 49ers. But he has also played very well in the playoffs at times too. Even in a couple of losses. Some of those losses are on him; some aren’t.
Too many football fans think all playoff wins and losses are on the QB. As if missed tackles, missed blocks, dropped passes and blown coverages play no role in a loss.
Dak has stood out as having worked his butt off to be better as QB, to recover from two bad injuries, to be accountable for his paycheck and to give his team everything he has in his bag to win. Whatever anyone thinks about Dak or his paycheck he has worked as hard as any player I’ve seen to be as good as he can be. We’ve all seen many overpaid NFL players coast on their big contracts.
Dak Prescott is the unquestioned leader of this 3-3-1 football team that is what its record says it is so far: A team that has overachieved at times and been embarrassingly bad at others. But the Dallas Cowboys at least have a committed, hard working, excellent QB who may not be the best QB, but with the right support, he’s capable of winning playoff games as in plural.

One last point: Some fans on this forum will never respect Dak as the QB here. That’s ok because it’s an opinion forum. But in my opinion it’s neither a serious nor respectable argument to simply say “Dak sucks” because he’s 2-5 in the playoffs. Some of those with the loudest and most frequent speakers of that opinion are just pulling your chain.

Like or not, Dak Prescott is the unquestioned leader of this Cowboys team. He’s not perfect. But he is very good and without him this team would have zero chance.

Tony Romo Dak Prescott is a fine regular season QB, though he tends to need high end talent somewhere around him on offense in order to play really winning football, where higher level QB (i.e. Allen/Brady/Mahomes/Jackson/etc...) have more of an ability to raise the level of the talent around them through their play (at least in the regular season, right, Lamar?). Unfortunately for Cowboys fans, Tony Romo Dak Prescott has not shown himself to be nearly as capable in the playoffs.

And, as with Drake Maye and Daniel Jones, he's also been able to take advantage of his team's early schedule, which is not to mean that the success to date should be dismissed, but just to acknowledge that it should be factored in. So enjoy the ride, but don't go being shocked if there are some rough times ahead, since the Cowboys schedule (theoretically) gets harder moving forward.
