I was driving home to Chicopee Mass from Hartford, Ct after I had just won a good amount of money betting on Jai-Alai. I was fucking hammered and shouldn't have been awake much less driving. I dropped my friend off at his place in Enfield, Ct. and continued on my way home. I stopped for a red light about a mile and a half from my home. It was winter and I had the heat on full blast. The next thing I know, I hear someone knocking on my drivers side window. It was a cop who then asked if I was alright. I said Yeah, I'm fine. The cop says" We've been sitting here behind you for 5 minutes the lights turned green 4 times and you haven't moved". He shined the flashlight in my car and saw a bunch of empty Bud cans and a Jack Daniels bottle that was mostly empty. He told me to get out of the car and I explained I had won a bunch of money and was celebrating. He told me to hang on while he talked to his partner.
The cop got in my car and started driving off and the other cop said to get into his car. After I did. we took off and drove about a quarter mile to an all night diner. The other cop had parked my car there. Then the one cop told me to go drink some coffee and sober up a little before I continue to drive home. He said they'd be watching for me so I better be there at least an hour before driving again.
No arrest, no ticket. Just cops being very good to me that evening.

first time i ever got pulled over, it was for doing 75 in a 55 (Route 3 changes from 55 to 65 mph back and forth)

Cop said "we usually give people a break on their first time, but you were a bit excessive"

gave me a $180 ticket, i was 18 and my insurance went up $2k a year for 3 years.. so that ticket cost me $6,180 and was my only time ever being pulled over

That's insane!! I've been very fortunate, I've never gotten a moving violation ticket. Although I deserved a ton of them. I've gotten 4 parking tickets since I started driving in '74.

They say God takes care of drunks and fools. Well, I was covered twice there, so I had that going for me.
