Last night, I was involved with a lengthy discussion and then meditation about James 3. A short synopsis of the chapter:
The tongue, a source of so much sin and "full of deadly poison" defiles the whole body. Whether it is what you say or what you write, what comes out of you is an overflow of the heart. How can a mouth be used for blessing God and then for a myriad of vulgarities. It is like a spring providing fresh drinking water and bitter salt water. It doesn't work. Your spiritual health (and as a result, your overall health) will suffer if you pollute yourself.
James 3 should cause a person to take a long look in the mirror. It did for me. I will no longer defile myself in such a way. It is an offense to God. Period. Hanging out in the PoFo too long would be disastrous for me. Can't do it. Football? Meh, I'm kind of half in half out already. I can be good discussing football though. But I do need an outlet if I am going to be here. If not, my only solution would be to leave. But I've made commitments with the betting, and "let your yes be your yes" as Jesus said.
This is a way I can stay active here whill dabbling in the other forums from time to time.
I'd love for someone to give James 3 a read and give me their thoughts.
