We need to remember that the signers of the Declaration were signing their own death warrants. The British Empire was strong, well established, and brutal, and was gunning for them.
Yet these men had so much faith in the ideals that would become America they did it. Faith in God, Faith in the people to self govern, Faith in the existence of unalienable rights that were guaranteed for ALL.
Then they went on to craft a Constitution based not on what the people could do, but on what the government could NOT do. And, it ensured that the several states and the people would forever hold all other powers.
Over the years, through semantics and downright dishonesty, the federal government has twisted and abused it's power, growing ever more intrusive and moving away from its core responsibilities. It has become a bloated monstrosity taking far more form the people in order to fund programs that never should have existed.
Yet, it is still the most free, most equitable, most generous nation on Earth. And the blueprint is there for all nations. The Constitution is not copyrighted, its values and structure are there for any nation to adopt. If they have the courage.
