FREE AGENCY THREAD (and Potential Trade Bait)

Today (and this week) is a good example of why it usually pays to wait out many "trade block" players.. they just end up getting released and you can sign them outright, assuming they will play for your team.
My line of thinking was to throw in a 7th on top of 2026 4th. Keep this years picks to possibly bundle and move up. Oh well it obvioulsy didn't happen.. I agree it would be a good move, but I'm not going to be mad about non-moves before we've even hit FA.
I'm fine with him for a mid round pick, + the contract he will reportedly get. But not for the Seattle asking price, fuck that, he's not that good. And if he's a pussy and doesn't want to play in cold weather then fuck him.
You trade for them to make sure you don't have to compete for them, and so you don't lose them to someone else who's willing to make the trade for them.

He's the exception, not the rule, see every quality player that's been released the that week or so. it's a very long list.
I would normally take a wait and see approach. But, this year, the Patriots have all the cap space in the world, needs at just about every position, and a thin free agency class to pick through. They've also got a QB who needs a lot of development, and a lot of protection, and a top quality target, yet they are sitting on their asses while other teams with last year's QB picks are already wheeling and dealing, when both teams had already been blessed with better supporting casts.
Samuel to Washington also happened., which highlights the poin.
Also, Bosa got cut because that was actually better for the team than trading him, due to the way his contract was set up.
I'd rather sign Kupp or Adams than trade for Deebo. I'm glad Washington made that deal instead of us... he's been declining for 4 years straight.
I'd prefer one of them, as well. But, as of now, they have neither. They could have traded for Kupp to make sure he was here. Instead, again as of now, they'll be stuck competing with a lot of teams in better position than the Patriots.
We have no idea if he's even willing to play here, trading for him likely would've cost a 3rd or 4th round pick plus you're on the hook for his remaining contract. Pats have the most cap space, if his motivation is $$$. If it's not cash, if it's championship/weather, he's out anyway.
Nobody can outbid the Pats if they want the player at any cost.
Well now he's a free agent so I guess we'll see.. Pats reportedly aren't interested though, it's been all Higgins, DK, Godwin.
They reported it as "likely" if a trade wasn't done, on NFLN earlier but I'm not seeing reports online.
Just a clarification on Chris Godwin's injury, his season ender last year was a dislocated ankle, not an ACL/MCL. Pats are reportedly going to push hard to sign him.
