Did they though? Is the lounge next to the school library?
The egg cracking thing I don't see much use for but the pickle thing keeps you from having to stick your hand in a pickle jar, which is not always the most sanitary thing in the world. And the bagel slicer is great for places where people are buying bagels and slicing them and toasting them. It helps keep the uniform size of each half.
USPS quietly changed when postmarks are applied to mail. It’s part of their overall “Delivering for America” plan. Instead of same day, your 1st class and similar mail might now get the postmark stamp 1 to 2 days after they took possession of the mail piece. If you want to ensure a same-day postmark, USPS recommends going to a retail counter at any USPS post office.
The processing and distribution centers that apply postmarks are staying the same. It’s the transportation time and movement methods of the mail that have changed. It appears this change will predominantly affect rural areas, which typically vote Republican. Voters should now mail ballots at least 2 days earlier than in any previous election.
A postmark is the dated imprint over a stamp to cancel its use. It serves an internal USPS function. However, for over 7 decades, postmarks have been used by administrators as evidence that a deadline was met. Postmarks have been critical for legal forms, IRS tax filings, mail-in ballots, and many other purposes...
We see the disaster that is the postal service, and folks want the same bosses in charge of healthcare?Heads up, @everyone ! The post office has made a change, and you're going to get screwed if you don't know about it (and probably even if you do):
USPS Postmarks Now Stamped 1-2 Days After USPS Takes Possession. 47% Of Population Affected, Mostly Republican Areas (Ballots, Taxes, Legal Docs)
WASHINGTON — The United States Postal Service is proposing a price hike for First-Class stamps.
During a congressional hearing on Tuesday, Postmaster General David Steiner discussed the mailing agency's prolonged financial struggles and the dwindling use of mail among Americans.
"I am not sure that the American public is aware that the Postal Service is at a critical juncture. I know that I wasn’t aware of the extent of it before I took on this role, but at our current run rate and if we continue to pay our required obligations in the same manner as we have done in recent years, then we will be out of cash in less than 12 months," Steiner said during the hearing. "So, less than a year from now the Postal Service will be unable to deliver the mail if we maintain the status quo."
Steiner proposed that the first-class stamp be priced at 95 cents, nearly 23% higher than the current cost of 78 cents. The Postmaster General said the First-Class stamp in the U.S. is the "lowest-priced in the industrialized world."
Steiner added that France's first-class stamp is priced at almost $3 and that England's stamp is priced at $2.50.
"And the longest distance that letters have to travel in those countries is about 600 miles—smaller than the state of Texas. We deliver from the tip of Puerto Rico to the tip of Alaska for 78 cents. That’s a distance of 5,000 miles," Steiner said. "So, we sell the stamp at less than half the cost to travel over eight times farther."
"If we were to change the stamp price to 90 to 95 cents, which is still less than half of the cost of most foreign posts, that would largely solve our controllable loss," he added. "And the stamp price would still be the lowest in the industrialized world by a lot."
The Postal Service is in the midst of a 10-year modernization and cost-cutting plan that began in 2021 under Postmaster Louis DeJoy, who resigned in March 2025. The plan is an attempt to stop losses at the agency, which has a budget of about $78 billion a year and is mostly self-funded, including through stamps and packages.
Steiner also nudged lawmakers to increase borrowing limits for the postal service.
Steiner took over as Postmaster General in July and was the former CEO of Waste Management Inc. and served on the FedEx board of directors.
