I saw him at Fenway during that Spirited summer of '76... Couldn't get anything but upper-RF bleacher seats for that one, near the Ted Williams red HR chair... Complete-game victory, naturally... Bottom of the 9th, and his 3Bman, Ellie Rodriguez, makes an error to put the tying run on-deck or something, I believe... The Bird goes over to him and puts his arm on his shoulder, says a few words, goes back to the mound... and gets the next guy Out to win the game... Everyone - and I mean Everyone - in the stands wanted him to get that CGW... Most enjoyable RS loss I have EVER attended. Good times, good times...
The team really needed a performance like that, even if it was against the lowly A's. Boston's been mostly struggling since Anthony went down, and this might be a momentum starter against a "get right" team.
