One of my favorite verses in Scriptures is Jeremiah 15:16

Your words were found, and I ate them,
And Your Word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart;

God's word is how you listen to God...how you can have a healthy relationship with God.

For context, Jeremiah was one of God's loyal prophets. But he was a prophet in troubling times. The people of Judah did not want to hear from him. Even worse, Jeremiah faced hardship, death threats, assault. Where did he turn for comfort? God's word.

Like Jeremiah, we must anchor ourselves in God's word for strength in adversity. We must immerse ourselves in Scripture to truly walk with the Lord.

God's words are nourishment to our spirit. God's words sustain our souls.

Further evidence that God's word, not food, is the true sustenance. None of us have or will suffer like Job. It was God's word (and obedience to God's word) that sustained Job. There is no safer place to be than attached to God.

I have not departed from the commandment of His lips;
I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.

-Job 23:12

If you are not consuming His word daily in the same manner as food, you will be spiritually malnourished. Sick.

Jesus, of course, repeated this message.

"...man shall not live by bread alone;
But man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord."

Deuteronomy 8:3

The prophet Ezekiel was told be God how to receive His word to then deliver to a disobedient and rebellious Israel. The "eat" in Hebrew here is not meant literally. Ezekiel was to devour the word. The word would be fuel for him.

"Son of man, eat what you find;
Eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel."

Ezekiel 3:1

It's true. Been sitting outside since 8:00 this morning eating the Word, listening to the birds, and enjoying silent meditation with my Creator.

Never felt better.

How sweet are Your words to my taste,
Sweeter than honey to my mouth!"

Psalm 119:103

The prophet Ezekiel was told be God how to receive His word to then deliver to a disobedient and rebellious Israel. The "eat" in Hebrew here is not meant literally. Ezekiel was to devour the word. The word would be fuel for him.

"Son of man, eat what you find;
Eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel."

Ezekiel 3:1

One further message from Ezekiel that is really important. More from God's command to Ezekiel...

"Feed your belly and fill your stomach with this scroll that I give you."
So I ate, and it was in my mouth like honey in sweetness.

Ezekiel 3:3

We see the sweetness of honey as in Psalm 119 in the prior post. But the real message from God here is to FILL YOUR STOMACH. Tasting and merely sampling isn't going to cut it! Fill yourself with the word constantly. Daily. It is food for your soul.

From 1 Peter 2:2-3

If you are not in the Word daily, you are malnourished spiritually. And in danger! This likely applies to everyone on this forum other than two people.

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk,
so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,
now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.
