One of the best running back prospects in the 2026 NFL draft suffered a major injury ahead of two important events. The 2026 edition of the Senior Bowl (which will feature other stars such as Diego Pavia), scheduled at 2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, won’t have one of the most electrifying running backs in college football last season.

After a terrific senior season with the Penn State Nittany Lions, Nicholas Singleton suffered a devastating injury. Rich Scarcella of Reading Eagle reported on Friday that Singleton suffered a broken foot during Thursday’s practice at the Senior Bowl. More specifically, he broke the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot.

Singleton will undergo surgery in Alabama next week, his father announced. The injury and the rehab will prevent the running back from participating in drills at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Nicholas Singleton is set to enter the NFL after a terrific career at Penn State. Over four seasons, he posted 3,461 rushing yards, 987 receiving yards and 54 total touchdowns. Despite posting career lows in carries (123) and yards (549) in 2025, he posted a career high in rushing touchdowns (13).

Singleton earned consideration for the College Football 2025–26 All-American Team Offense, alongside other top prospects such as Fernando Mendoza and Trinidad Chambliss.

It remains to be seen whether this injury affects Singleton’s draft stock.
