Cheers in Boston is overrated. Many other bars I’ve been to up there that are better. Once you get over the fact that you’re in a place where a show was filmed, it’s a meh bar.
Yup. Back in the day, Aerosmith had a dive bar in the area near Fenway. They used to play there from time to time unannounced. Got in as a teenager a few times with a fake ID.
Never bothered more than once with Cheers..
It’s a great place if you want to stand the entire time, overpay for a beer, and watch Asian tourists take the worst pictures known to man.
Honestly, the Cheers in Westside Jacksonville, where I’ve done blow in a handicap stall with shitwater sprayed on the wall, is a better bar than the one in Boston.
That's the way to see a great band - small venue. I saw Dio and Dream Theater in Nottingham, England in 2000. Place was called Rock City - capacity of about 500. Both shows were awesome. Even at that age Dio still had it and more.

Saw Aerosmith at the Garden on New Years Eve 1990. They celebrated by playing for over 4 hours. Got some nice back catalog songs that night!

I did see Three Dog Night (might have been Two Dog Night by then) in 93 at the NCO Club, Yokota Air Base, Japan. Good show, and it was free.
I've gone to very few shows in my lifetime, as it's not generally my cup of tea. But the stadium shows I went to were absolutely worth it. Even going to Sullivan Stadium turned out great.
Black Sabbath (Cross Purposes tour, Tokyo, 1994) was pretty awesome. Amazing acoustics.
Same. A band like Metallica will only play at a stadium or arena. If you want to see acts like that, you have to go to the bigger venues. Small bar/club (EDM) acts are my personal favorite, but amphitheater shows are awesome, too.
Bands that realize they made it to the top, and have reached a point where the playing and fan interaction is the goal, are the ones to see.
ZZ Top played a lot of very small venues later in the career - as do a lot of others. It's like a jam session - just awesome to see them like that.
It's fun to watch the progression from Season 1 as Norm gets wittier and funnier.
